My Name is Denise Nolan, Better known as Pizazz. I was born and raised in Harvey, IL to Charles and Ida Conner. I started writing at the age of 15. At that age my writing was only about what happened on a daily basis. By age 21 my writing went to a whole different level. I experienced being a single mother. Loreal, my oldest daughter, changed my life.Trying not to be a statistic, I knew I needed to do something different, something outside the norm.
So I began to write about the struggles of being a single mother. One of the first poems I wrote was called "Sistas" which encouraged single parents not to give up, even though you may face some obstacles.
I then started reciting my poems during church service. My Pastor, Apostle Paul A Southerland, took every opportunity to allow me to recite my poems. I soon started entering in poetry contest, winning some and also losing a few.
In 2002 I started performing in a show called
"U-Got-Jokes" which is still in existance today. I've performed in many christian shows, Ray Bady's Couples Night Out and Darryl King's Mother's Day Celebration just to name a few.
I was also given the opportunity to host my own poetry show at The Buzz Cafe in Homewood. It was then that I really took flight. Hosting introduced me to the spoken word scene. Meeting and listening to other poets encouraged me to produce my first poetry show held at my church (Redeeming World Church ) in Hammond, IN.
I currently host and produce, along with my loving husband, Bobby " DJ Bobby" Nolan a live christian showcase called "PAS Unplugged". We broadcast simultaniously over the radio (WBGX 1570AM) and stream live over the internet (PASE.TV). We have had quite a few artist pass through our doors in these last few years.
I am also in the studio recording my first CD of poetry entitled " Who Is She" due out in 2010. It is something different. Myself along with Redeeming's World Church Band are going to bring you something new and fresh. Keep your ears open for the LIVE CD recording. Its going to be an event not to miss.
Emotional Exhale is my latest undertaking. This website was created to showcase up and coming Artist. Just like with my show "PAS Unplugged", I want to provide a place for all artist to exhale; for I truly believe that singing, dancing, playing an instrument and the spoken word allow an artist to exhale from those emotional constraints that life place upon us.
